Cash surplus / shortfall before income taxes
Enter both amounts to see a result. Blank is not zero.
Formula: income received − business expenses paid = cash surplus or shortfall.
No income tax is calculated. This result is not accounting profit, a bank balance, bill coverage, a forecast or a safe-to-spend figure.
Fictional example: $1,200 received − $80 paid = $1,120 cash surplus before income taxes.

What does this result tell me?
It subtracts your paid business expenses from your received income for the same period. A positive result is a cash surplus; a negative result is a cash shortfall. It does not include an opening balance, future bills, unpaid invoices or an income-tax calculation.
Do transfers or borrowed money count as income here?
No. Leave out internal transfers, loans and loan principal, owner funding and drawings. Also exclude collected sales tax from income, and its remittances and income-tax payments from expenses. Keep these records separate from client receipts and operating costs.
What amount formats can I use?
Use amounts such as 1200, 1200.50 or $1,200.50. Standard comma groups and one optional dollar sign are accepted. Negative inputs, scientific notation and more than two decimal places are not accepted. Enter 0 explicitly when an amount is zero.
Will this calculator save my numbers?
This calculator does not save your entries. Copy the result into your own records, or use Reset to clear the fields. Normal site analytics follow the store's privacy policy. The paid toolkit has separate instructions for saving your own files.
